Stephanie is currently serving her first term as Connecticut's 75th Secretary of the State.
Stephanie is a former small business owner who has spent three decades advising and problem-solving for nonprofit organizations. In 2020, she was elected to represent Norwalk, Wilton, and Westport as a Representative in Connecticut’s State House, flipping that seat from Republican to Democrat.
Since taking office, Secretary Thomas has distinguished herself as a strong leader able to build consensus across all party lines. Her business and non-profit background have allowed her to roll out large scale projects successfully and economically.
In addition to her role in Connecticut, she has become a national leader. She serves on the Executive Board of the National Association of Secretaries of State and is an active member of several non-partisan organizations providing thought leadership around the future of elections and the democratic process.

The Secretary of the State's office is the official keeper of all acts, orders, grants, and resolutions of the General Assembly, receives and maintains legislation, regulations, and a wide range of other public documents as required by statute, and administers Connecticut’s notary public program. In addition to administering, interpreting, and implementing all state and federal laws pertaining to elections, primaries, nominating procedures, and the acquisition and exercise of voting rights, the office also files and maintains legally required records showing the formation of and fundamental changes to corporations, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships, limited partnerships and other business entities.
